BHS, GA SET TO FACE OFF FRIDAY IN SECOND GAMES OF CITY CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL SERIES

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Glynn Academy and Brunswick High will meet for the second time this season Friday on the basketball court. The second games in this year’s City Championship series are scheduled for the Glass Palace at Glynn. The Lady Terrors and Lady Pirates will tip off at 6:30 p.m. following afternoon junior varsity games with the Pirates and Red Terrors scheduled for an 8 p.m. start. Both Brunswick teams will be looking to sweep the city series in 2025 after winning the first matchups against Glynn on their home court earlier this month. When they played on Jan. 10, the Brunswick girls defeated GA 50-39 while the Pirates sailed to a 74-35 triumph over the Terrors. On Friday, both Glynn teams will be coming off road losses Tuesday night at Bradwell Institute in Region 1-AAAAA. The GA girls fell to the Lady Tigers 49-35 while the Terrors were handed a 78-36 loss. Both Glynn teams were playing for the first time since Jan. 18 as they were originally scheduled to play Bradwell last Tuesday and Statesboro last Saturday, but those games had to be postponed due to the winter storm that brought snow to the Golden Isles and Southeast Georgia. The Lady Terrors are 11-10 overall and 3-3 in the region which is sub-divided this year. The Terrors are 1-21 and are 0-6 in region games. Both Brunswick teams have not played since their games at Statesboro on Jan. 18. They had their games last week against South Effingham on Tuesday, Statesboro on Friday and Bradwell Institute on Saturday postponed by the storm. Now, the Pirates and Lady Pirates will host South Effingham on Monday before also hosting their rematches with Statesboro on Thursday and then playing at Bradwell on Saturday. In their last game at Statesboro, the Pirates fell to the Blue Devils 53-50. The loss was only the second of the season for the Pirates who enter Friday’s fray with Glynn owning a 16-2 overall record and a 2-1 league ledger. The BHS girls won their last game at Statesboro, 64-40. Brunswick is 14-5 on the season and 2-1 in region games. The Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame will award Player of the Game trophies after each game on Friday night.
