There won’t be any basketball tonight for local teams. Due to the wintry weather expected locally and across Southeast Georgia starting as early as Tuesday evening, all extra-circular activities including athletics must be finished by 4 p.m. today here in Glynn County. Also, Glynn County Schools will be closed on Wednesday. The school system made that announcement on Monday while also informing the public that a regular school day was planned for Tuesday. Schools were closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Brunswick High teams were scheduled to play at home Tuesday night against Region 1-AAAAA foe South Effingham. Those games have already been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 3. The Glynn Academy boys and girls were supposed to be in Hinesville tonight for region games against Bradwell Institute. Those games have been rescheduled for next Tuesday. BHS will resume action Friday night with home games in the region against Statesboro. The Pirates and Lady Pirates played at Statesboro on Saturday with the BHS girls winning big and the Pirates falling in a close one, 53-50. The loss was just the second of the season for the Pirates who are now 16-2. Their only other loss was an overtime defeat in their home Christmas tournament to Windsor Forest which is currently ranked in Class AAA. Both Glynn teams will go back into action Saturday at Statesboro. The GA teams hosted Statesboro last Friday with the Lady Terrors winning a key region game while the Red Terrors fell to the Blue Devils who are 16-2 on the season following their win Saturday at home against the Pirates. Glynn and Brunswick will play again a week from this Friday. The City Championship games will be played at Glynn. The local rivals met for the first time this season on Jan. 10 at BHS with both Brunswick teams winning those games.
