However, the City Championship contest had to be postponed due to circumstances related to the storm that brought rain and heavy wind into the area overnight on Thursday. The game is now scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday. Glynn is the defending city champion and will try to retain the title with a second straight victory in the series with the Pirates. Brunswick had won three in a row prior to last season’s loss in overtime. BHS ended a six-game win string by the Terrors when the Pirates won the 2020 matchup. The six straight wins by Glynn tied the longest win streak in the series held previously by the Pirates who won six in a row from 1995 when the teams played twice through 1999 when BHS played for the Class AAAA state crown at the end of the season. The Pirates have not lost since dropping their season opener at home to Camden County which went undefeated in its non-region schedule and will open region play this weekend against Valdosta. Brunswick, ranked No. 9 in Class AAAAA, is one of only two teams in Region 1-AAAAA still undefeated in league play after three weeks of region games. The other is Lakeside-Evans which remained unbeaten overall at 5-0 with last Friday’s 28-14 win over Glynn in Brunswick. Both the Panthers and Pirates are 3-0 in the region. The Terrors are 2-1 along with Effingham. Greenbrier, which BHS defeated 21-14 last week after falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, is 1-1 after two region games. The Pirates are one of the highest-scoring teams in the state. They are averaging 40.2 points a game which currently ranks fifth in Class AAAAA. Brunswick is allowing 21.2 points a game. Glynn is averaging 24 points while giving up 20.2 per game. Both GA and BHS have played Wayne County, their only common opponent to this point. The Terrors defeated the winless Yellow Jackets 16-10 in the season opener on Aug. 16 while the Pirates toppled the Jackets 49-7 the following week. Both games were played in Jesup. Players to watch for Brunswick on offense include running back William Heck, receiver/running back Jamarious Towns, receiver Waseem Murray, quarterback Grant Moore and tight end Heze Kent. Players to watch for the BHS defense are linebackers Jashawn Towns and Caleb Butler and defensive back Aviyon Addison. For Glynn, players to watch on offense are quarterback/receiver T.Y. Chisolm, running back Da’Sean Howard and receiver Shawn Wallace. On defense, players to watch for GA include linebackers Quaylin McCullough and Smith Whitehead along with lineman Tae Green and defensive back Jamir Williams. The City Championship trophy will be presented following the game along with individual awards including the Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame Player of the Game.
