Game Preview
Friday’s game at Greenbrier will be the third all-time meeting between the Pirates and Wolfpack.
Brunswick won the first time these teams met in 2006 at home by a 49-28 final score. The Wolfpack also won at home the next season, 22-19.
This is head coach Sean Tiernan’s first season at the Greenbrier helm. He played football and baseball at Greenbrier, helping the baseball team to a state title when he was there.
Tiernan was previously the offensive coordinator at Thomson which won a state championship in 2022. He was the offensive coordinator at Burke County prior to coaching at Thomson. He helped Burke to a state crown in 2011 as well.
Greenbrier was 5-25 over the past three seasons including an 0-10 campaign in 2022.
This season, the Wolfpack have won two of their first three games including their Region 1-AAAAA opener at home two weeks ago over Statesboro. Greenbrier toppled the Blue Devils 43-14.
The Pirates have won three in a row including their first two region games since dropping their season opener to Camden County.
BHS is one of the highest-scoring teams in the state and currently ranks third in points per game in Class AAAAA as it averages 45 points a game.
Brunswick entered the state rankings last week at No. 10 and moved up a spot to ninth this week after pounding Evans 48-14 last Friday at Glynn County Stadium.
For BHS, Waseem Murray averages 79.7 receiving yards per game to lead the Pirates while Jamarious Towns is averaging 75 receiving yards a game.
William Heck leads Brunswick’s powerful ground attack with almost 118 rushing yards a game.
Heck and tight end Heze Kent have both scored a team-high six touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Grant Moore has thrown for 854 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception in four games.
On defense, senior linebackers Jashawn Towns and Caleb Butler lead the Brunswick tackle chart, averaging 10 and 8.5 tackles, respectively.
