BHS, GA to compete Saturday in state sectional here

BHS, GA TO COMPETE SATURDAY IN STATE SECTIONAL HERE

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Brunswick High and Glynn Academy are set to compete Saturday in a Class AAAAAA state sectional for traditional wrestling. Their sectional will be here at BHS. Both local squads competed this past weekend in the area traditional tournament which was won by South Effingham. Glynn finished second and Brunswick finished third. Last month, South Effingham won the area duals championship before also going on to claim a second straight state title. Glynn finished second behind the Mustangs in the area tournament and also the state duals. This Saturday at BHS, individual wrestlers from these teams and several others will compete in their respective weight classes for spots in the state championship next weekend in Macon. The Glynn wrestlers competing this week include Liam Bee (first at 106 in area), Carson Lutz (second at 113), Harbin Bruce (third at 120), Hunter Kegley (first at 126), Ryan Alfau (third at 132) and Phil Cuttino (first at 138). Also from GA still alive in state are AJ Waters (second at 145), Adam Mills (first at 150), Cade Morgan (first at 157), Bennett Sams (second at 190), Cooper Reiss (third at 215) and Quay Evans (third at 285). Two girls are state qualifiers for Glynn. They are Marigona Lau who was first at 125 pounds at area and Nevaeh Laird who was fourth at 190. From BHS, those advancing to the state sectional from the area include Anthony Lowe, Clayton Hicks and River Creel who won their weight classes. Three Pirates were second at their weights to advance including Stunnar Hutchinson, Tristian Tootle and Talin Walen. Also four Brunswick wrestlers finished fourth last week to reach sectionals. Those include Ryan Sanders, Levi Orr, Semaj Dobbins and Thomas Clay. The top six wrestlers from each weight class at the sectional will move on to Macon next week. There is another Class AAAAAA sectional taking place Saturday at Houston County. Other teams with wrestlers competing Saturday in Brunswick include Alexander, Allatoona, Apalachee, Creekview, East Paulding, Effingham, Etowah, Gainesville, Grovetown, Habersham Central, Jackson County, Lakeside-Evans, Lanier, New Manchester, Newnan, North Forsyth, Paulding County, River Ridge, Rome, Sequoyah, Shiloh, South Paulding and Woodstock.
