By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Glynn Academy Red Terrors are set to play a big soccer game Tuesday night between the bricks. Glynn will host a talented Johns Creek team for an Elite 8 matchup in the Class AAAAAA state tournament with the winner earning a berth in the state semifinals. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Glynn County Stadium. Veteran GA coach Bobby Brockman said that Johns Creek will be the best opponent the Terrors have faced this season. The Terrors hope to win again on their home turf where they are a perfect 10-0 this season. Glynn comes into the contest with a 19-1 record after advancing from round two with a 3-1 victory last Thursday over Dunwoody at GC Stadium, a physical contest in which GA lost some players with injuries. In the opening round, the Terrors knocked off Lee County to kick off their playoff push. GA is the top seed from Region 2-AAAAAA after losing only to South Effingham in league action this spring. South Effingham also played into the second round before losing a tough 1-0 decision last week at Lakeside-Dekalb. Johns Creek is a No. 4 seed out of Region 7, but don’t be fooled by the Gladiators’ seeding. Their region’s top three seeds - Lassiter, Sprayberry and Blessed Trinity - are all still alive in the quarterfinals. The Gladiators will venture to Brunswick with a 17-3-1 record. They went 3-3 in region games and are 5-3-1 on the road this season. They have given up only 18 goals in 21 games and have scored 72. They lost 3-0 at Lassiter and fell 3-2 at Blessed Trinity while topping Sprayberry 3-2 in overtime. Johns Creek fell to Rome 2-1 in the opening round of last year’s state tournament. Two seasons ago, the Gladiators lost to Dalton 2-1 in the state championship game. Dalton eliminated Glynn from the state tournament last year with a 3-0 home victory before winning again in the semifinals and then falling to Lassiter in the state title game. GA has outscored its opponents 88-14 this season.
