Glynn takes fourth in state duals

GLYNN TAKES FOURTH IN STATE DUALS

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Glynn Academy Red Terrors finished fourth on Saturday in the Class AAAAAA Team Dual Wrestling Championship held in Gainesville. The Terrors lost their opening-round match to Woodward Academy, but fought back through the elimination bracket to make the third-place match where they again faced off against Woodward. In the elimination bracket, Glynn defeated Lee County 46-28 and also Creekview 39-27 before settling for fourth after falling to Woodward a second time on the day. Saturday’s state duals featured the final eight teams. Glynn was making its first appearance in the state tournament since 2009. The Terrors fell a match short last year when they lost in the finals at sectionals. This year, Glynn won both of its sectional matches to advance to the final eight which was hosted by Gainesville High. Liam Bee, Phil Cuttino, Cade Morgan, Lucas Ketcham. Glynn’s team includes Carson Lutz (106 pounds), Liam Bee (113), Jack Lombardo (113), Hunter Kegley (120), Harbin Bruc (120), Phil Cuttino (126), AJ Waters (132), Max Wakeland (132), Zion Gervais (132), Cade Morgan (144), aleb Cross (150), Jacok Brooks (157), Daniel Smiley (165), DJ Blackman (165), Bennett Sams (175), Mitch Weaver (190), Lucas Ketcham (215) and Quay Walker (285). Glynn’s head coach is Ryan Alfau. The Terrors finished third in Area 2 behind South Effingham and Brunswick. South Effingham went on to win its sectional and also defeated North Forsyth on Saturday for the duals state title. North Forsyth defeated Brunswick last week in a sectional final. Next for all teams in the state is traditional wrestling which also will feature area and state tournaments.
