RED TERRORS READY FOR STATE DUALS SATURDAY

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Glynn Academy wrestling team will compete Saturday in the Class AAAAAA Team Dual State Wrestling Championship. With each of the Georgia High School’s seven classifications holding the state duals at different sites, the Class AAAAAA championship will be decided in Gainesville. Glynn, which finished third in the Area 2 Duals two weeks ago, won its state sectional last Saturday to advance to the final eight. The Red Terrors rolled past Alexander and host Dunwoody in the sectional to make the final bracket. Also set to compete on Saturday is Area 2 champion South Effingham. Brunswick High, which was the area runner-up, did not make it out of its sectional last week. The Pirates lost to North Forsyth in the championship match. The Terrors are matched against Woodward Academy in their opening contest on Saturday. The Glynn-Woodward winner will advance to face off against the Lee County-North Forsyth winner in the semifinal round. The other two first-round matches are Newnan-Creekview and Lassiter-South Effingham. It takes three victories to win the team duals state crown. The teams that lose their opening match and also the semifinal losers will fall into the elimination bracket and can finish no better than third at that point. Following this weekend’s team duals tournaments, teams across the state will zero in on the upcoming traditional tournaments, where individuals qualify for the state tournaments in their respective weight classes and teams earn points based on their individual wrestlers’ finishes in their weight divisions with the teams accumulating the most being award the team championships. Area traditional tournaments are set for Feb. 3-4, state sectionals are Feb. 11 and the state tournaments are Feb. 16-18 in the Macon Centreplex.
