Players to Watch Tonight
A quick glance at key players from both the Red Terrors and Pirates
Glynn Academy - Offense
Tyler Devlin - Senior Quarterback
The GA senior quarterback will play a pivotal role for the Red Terrors in tonight’s game. He is a threat as a passer and runner which makes him dangerous if he scrambles out of the pocket. He is also a threat to keep the ball on run-pass option plays or if the Terrors elect to run other option plays. His favorite target is big-bodied receiver David Prince who is a deep-threat for the Terrors.
Greg Peacock - Sophomore Running Back
Peacock has pretty good size and speed and is Glynn’s No. 1 running back. They will hand him the ball, but he also takes direct snaps from the Wildcat formation. He is a capable receiver as well.
Jack Hunt - Junior Lineman
He has played several spots on Glynn’s offensive front and will need to have a strong game in the trenches and be a leader for a GA line that was lacking in game experience when the season started. The Glynn line will have its hands full against a strong defensive front for the Pirates.
Glynn Academy Defense
Peyton Parker - Junior Linebacker
Parker is small in stature but has a nose for the football and is one of the team’s top tacklers. Glynn needs him to make a lot of stops and tackle well in space against a bevy of Brunswick skill-players with big-play potential once they break the line of scrimmage.
Da’Vonte Lang - Junior Linebacker
Lang is another junior linebacker who needs to play well for the GA defense tonight against a Brunswick offense with big-play potential. Lang is one of Glynn’s most experienced players on the defensive side of the ball. He may also could see time on offense as a running back.
Trent Tankersley - Junior Safety
Tankersley is one of several promising players in the Glynn secondary who began the season with little experience. He can come up and provide support in the running game, but also will need to play well along with his backfield mates against the pass to limit Brunswick’s explosive plays in the passing game.
Brunswick High Offense
J.R. Elkins - Junior Quarterback
Elkins will be making his first start for the Pirates in the rivalry game against Glynn Academy. He has been steady early on for Brunswick and will need to make good decisions in the passing game while distributing the ball to the talented skill-players surrounding him. Glynn figures to try and pressure him into bad throws. He needs to protect the football for the Pirates.
Jayden Drayton -Senior Receiver
Drayton is one of Brunswick’s skill-guys with big-play potential. BHS has used him in the backfield to run the ball while of course throwing him the ball. He has scored at least one touchdown in each of Brunswick’s first four games and has scored running and catching the ball while returning a punt for a touchdown in the season opener.
Jamal Meriweather - Senior Lineman
Meriweather brings size and experience to Brunswick’s offensive line. The Pirates will rely on his physical skills and also his leadership in the trenches. He is committed to Central Florida.
Brunswick High Defense
Ka’Shawn Thomas - Senior Lineman
Thomas is a huge body on the defensive front for the Pirates and he runs well in pursuit of the ball, too. Thomas was the Region Player of the Year last season and definitely can change a game for the Pirates with his presence up front as opposing offensives have a tough time blocking him. Thomas is committed to Wake Forest.
Devin Smith - Senior Linebacker
Smith has been a consistent performer for the Pirates this season. Strong and fast, he can rush the passer, make tackles for loss and chase down plays beyond the line of scrimmage for the BHS defense. He is a major reason the Pirates have not given up more than 13 points in any one game thus far this season. Smith is getting looks from major colleges, and his highlight tape from this season figures to make him all the more attractive in due time.
Ivan Johnson - Senior Safety
Johnson is another big-time playmaker for the BHS defense. He is physical and can help stop the run, but he also is good in coverage for the Pirates. He has seen time in the Pirates’ offensive backfield, too. He runs with authority and is hard to tackle coming through the line.
