THURSDAY IN TERRORTOWN: GA HOSTING MCINTOSH

A look at Glynn Academy’s next game: Opponent: McIntosh County Academy When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday Where: Glynn County Stadium TV/Radio: ; 102.5 FM Records: GA 1-0, 0-0 Region 2-AAAAAA; MCA 1-0, 0-0 Region 3-A, D-II Last week: GA won 43-42 in OT at Statesboro; MCA won 20-12 at home against Johnson-Savannah Last year/All-time: Teams tied 14-14; GA leads series 9-2-1 Noteworthy: McIntosh standout linebacker Allen Bailey was a first-team All-State selection by the Associated Press, Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and the Atlanta-Journal Constitution as a senior in the 2005 season. The Skinny: The Red Terrors and Buccaneers were both winners last Friday night in their opening games. Glynn won 43-42 in overtime on the road at Statesboro while MCA won 20-12 at home over Johnson-Savannah. Last year, the Terrors and Bucs met in the season opener for both teams, battling to a 14-14 tie in Darien. The game was allowed to finish in a tie by the officiating crew, though Georgia High School Association rules call for overtime in all games. That hadn’t always been the case for non-region games, but the rules changed in recent years. The Terrors defeated MCA at Glynn County Stadium 33-7 back in the 2020 season. The Bucs recorded back-to-back victories over GA in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, winning 21-3 in Brunswick before winning 18-0 in Darien. Bradley Warren is in his second stint with the Bucs as head coach. He has guided the team to the playoffs the last three seasons. Warren was previously with the Bucs from 1999-2001 and took the team to the playoffs all three years back then. His first team lost in the first round, his 2000 team reached the state semifinals before losing to Buford and his 2001 team played in the quarterfinals. Last Friday, the Bucs held Johnson to just over 200 yards of total offense. Linebacker Lake Linton finished with 11 solo tackles and five tackles for loss. Running out of the Wing-T, JaReese Campbell is the MCA fullback. Neo West is the team’s quarterback. Campbell spent a good bit of the summer practicing at quarterback and could still see time there. He is also an all-region safety for the Bucs. For GA, sophomore Greg Peacock rushed for 132 yards and four touchdowns on 19 attempts last Friday. Tyler Devlin was 13-of-24 passing for 169 yards.
