WEEKEND PLAY: WRESTLING, BASKETBALL ON TAP FRIDAY FOR BHS, GLYNN

Wrestling and basketball will be showcased in Glynn County this weekend.
On Friday, Glynn Academy will host the Region 1-AAAAA traditional tournament.
The competition will begin at 2 p.m. in the GA gym.
The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to state sectionals set for Feb. 7 at Jackson County.
Wrestlers will also earn points toward their team’s score based on their finishes in their weight classes. The team with the highest point total at the end of the tournament will be declared the region champion for traditional wrestling.
Three of the top teams in the state will compete at Glynn including the host Red Terrors. South Effingham and Brunswick will also be competing.
South Effingham, the winner of the region duals championship, finished second in the state in duals earlier this month. Brunswick, the region runner-up in duals, went on to place fourth in the state tournament.
Also on Friday, Brunswick and Glynn will face each other in the second round of City Championship Games betweeen the local rivals in basketball.
These games will be played at Brunswick. The girls varsity contest starts at 6:30 p.m. with the boys game scheduled to follow at 8. The varsity tilts will follow afternoon junior varsity action.
These games are also Region 1-AAAAA games. The Pirates and Lady Pirates won the first meetings between the teams earlier this month at Glynn.
Also on Saturday, the BHS teams are slated to host South Effingham for their final regular-season games. Girls tip time is 6 p.m. with the boys scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Saturday will also be Senior Night for the Brunswick teams as they will honor the seniors on their teams.
