GRADY RESIGNS AS BRUNSWICK HIGH HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

Today marks a difficult day for Brunswick High School and the Glynn County School System as we announce the departure of Head Football Coach Garrett Grady who resigned as the coach of the Pirates on Tuesday morning. Coach Grady's impact goes far beyond his success on the field. He has been commended as not only a great football coach but also an exceptional teacher, mentor, role model and leader within the community. During his four years as head coach of the Pirates, Coach Grady significantly elevated the football program’s profile within Glynn County. Coach Grady served the Pirates for nine seasons, including five years as both offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. He then led the team as head coach for the last four seasons, resulting in an outstanding 36-10 record at the helm. During his four years as head coach, Grady guided the Pirates to three region championships (2022, 2024, and 2025) which included securing back-to-back region titles in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. His leadership also resulted in four consecutive state playoff berths for the Pirates, with the team making three straight appearances in the second round. Reflecting this success, Coach Grady was recently honored as the Region 1-AAAAA Coach of the Year. "Our football program is undeniably better because of Garrett Grady," said Steve Waters, assistant superintendent for Glynn County Schools who also serves as athletic director. "I want to personally say thank you to Coach Grady and his wife, Erica. The two of them have invested countless, selfless hours into the Brunswick High School football program. You will not find two better people, and we wish them all the best as they transition into the next chapter of their lives." Coach Grady said the following when submitting his resignation: “Dear Pirate Nation, After much thought and reflection, I am announcing my resignation as the head football coach at Brunswick High School. For the past nine seasons, I have been blessed to work with incredible young men and a community that cares deeply about its team. From serving as offensive coordinator for five years to leading this program as head coach for the last four, we have built something to be proud of, and created opportunities for many of our student-athletes to continue their football careers at the next level and helped shape them into strong, resilient, and dedicated young adults. Serving as the head football coach at Brunswick High School has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am profoundly grateful for the trust placed in me, for the support I’ve received, and for the relationships that will remain long after my time in this position. I also want to express my deepest appreciation to my wife, who has stood by my side through the long nights, the challenges, and the victories, sharing in the journey every step of the way. To my players—thank you for your hard work, your belief in our mission, and the pride you brought to the field every single day. To Pirate Nation, thank you for all your support! I will always carry tremendous pride in what we accomplished together, and Brunswick High School and Pirate Nation will forever hold a special place in my heart. With gratitude and respect, Garrett Grady” The Glynn County School System will begin the search for the next head football coach at Brunswick High School immediately. "We are committed to taking the necessary time to conduct a thorough and comprehensive search to ensure we find the right fit to continue the tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics for the Pirate program," Waters said. The position will be formally posted on the official hiring website, teachglynn.com. ---- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
