BHS TRAVELS TO STATESBORO FOR FRIDAY FRAY

Kickoff: A look at Brunswick High’s next game: Opponent: Statesboro When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Womack Field Records: BHS 6-1, 5-0 Region 1-AAAAA; SHS 4-2, 3-1 Region 1-AAAAA Last week: BHS won 60-14 at home over Bradwell Institute. Statesboro won 36-29 at home over Lakeside-Evans in overtime. Last year/All-time: BHS won 49-0. BHS leads all-time series 9-7. Game Preview Brunswick High goes on the road for the first time in a month to take on Statesboro at Womack Field in a Region 1-AAAAA game. Brunswick would keep the region lead with a victory as the Pirates are currently the only team unbeaten in region play with a 5-0 record. The Blue Devils are one of three teams going into Friday’s action at 3-1 in region play. The other two are Effingham and South Effingham. BHS has won six straight since the season-opening loss to Camden County down in Kingsland. Last week, the Pirates blew past Bradwell Institute in their Homecoming game as they won 60-14 at home. The 60 points were the second-most scored by BHS this season. The Pirates scored 65 in their shutout at Evans on Sept. 12. That game against Evans was the last true road game for the Pirates. They were at home against Greenbrier and Glynn Academy even though they were the away team on the scoreboard. Statesboro won in overtime last week against Lakeside-Evans. The Blue Devils have played the last two games without sophomore starting quarterback Beckham Jarrard. His status for this week was not known at the start of the week. Brunswick ranks third in scoring in Class AAAAA with its 45.7 scoring average per game. Thomas County Central leads Class AAAAA with 54 points a game while Hughes ranks second with 47.3 points a game. ---- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
